For a lot of hockey parents, the investment in their children’s safety while they are playing hockey is something that they take very seriously. While hockey can be a dangerous sport that keeps most hockey moms and dads on the edge of their seats hoping that their child comes out of their hockey game unscathed, if you know what equipment to buy for your child and you know that they are wearing their youth hockey pads properly, you can effectively decrease your child’s chances of getting injured while playing ice hockey.

Of course you want to make sure that their is enough padding in each of your youth hockey player’s pieces of equipment, but beyond that you really want to stress the importance of wearing the proper size and adjusting the youth hockey pads to fit them properly. If you make sure that they know the right way to wear their hockey gear (I know it sounds obvious but I can’t tell you how many youth hockey players I see wearing their youth ice hockey pads improperly), you will be able to spend less time worrying about their safety and more time cheering them on during their intense game of hockey. Always promote safety first when it comes to your child playing youth hockey because that way your child will likely not be as reckless and will keep himself or herself out of harms way while also keeping teammates and opposing players out of harms way which is very important too.

Not only are the youth hockey pads that your child wears important to their safety, but so is their knowledge and respect for the game of ice hockey. If your child knows what to look for on the ice and areas and situations to avoid, that child will not only grow up to be a safe hockey player, but also a more successful hockey player because of the vision that they have developed on the ice. It is extremely important to also teach your children to respect opposing players and never look to injure anyone. Yes, hockey is a contact sport, and injuries do happen. However, if your child does not respect the game and opponents the game of ice hockey loses all credibility.

Teach your youth hockey players the importance of wearing the proper youth hockey pads as well as the importance of being a smart hockey player. If you do this not only will their chances of getting injured while playing hockey decrease, but so will their chances of injuring someone else, which will altogether make ice hockey a safer game to play.
