For goalies choosing the right stick is not quite as hard as it is for forwards, however, if you are a goalie you know that the wrong stick can really throw off your game. With forwards and defensemen there are many aspects that go into choosing the right stick to allow them to shoot the puck hard, shoot the puck accurately, pass the puck well and even handle the puck well. Many goalies do overlook the importance of being able to handle the puck and transition the puck well, and learning to be a good puck handling goaltender can be incredibly difficult. The right hockey goalie stick can make a world of difference.

Obviously the main use for the ice hockey goalie stick is to use it to help the goaltender stop the puck and control rebounds by directing the puck to the corners or over the glass. With that in mind, you will want to make sure that you have the right goalie stick lie for your particular height and goalie stance. Another thing that I should note is that a goaltender should never cut their stick because it can throw off your stance and cutting your hockey goalie sticks also takes away a few precious inches in length that you need if you poke check the puck. If you are a child purchase a junior hockey goalie stick, if you are an adult obviously you want to purchase regular sized hockey goalie sticks for adults, and if neither stick suits your particular height you should go with the intermediate size for your goaltender sticks.

After you find the right lie and height for your particular hockey goaltender sticks, then you can start seeking out your desired curve for the blade of your sticks. Once you find a curve that you like, make sure you stick with it when purchasing a new stick otherwise you will never get used to a pattern which might hinder your ability to play the puck well as a goaltender.

Other than those few features to choose from in hockey goalie sticks, there really is not that much to choosing one to suit your goaltending needs. It is important in this day in age that the goaltender know how to handle, shoot and clear the puck. Goalies who have the ability to act as a third defenseman in the defensive zone are highly sought after in elite levels of hockey, and a goalie who can’t handle the puck will have to adapt to this new style of hockey or get passed by. So if you do not use the right hockey goalie sticks, you should certainly do your best to find the sticks that will work best for you.

Hockey goalie sticks are a unique piece of equipment for the goalie. If you are new to goalie, you might think that all goalie sticks are pretty much the same and that you do not have to compare sticks to find one that will suit you best. However, just like hockey forwards and defensemen, the hockey goalie stick is something that goalies become very picky and particular about once they have gotten used to a certain style.

There are a few very important things that you need to consider when you are picking out your ice hockey goalie sticks. First, you will want to find a curve that you will like which will allow you to play the puck well. The curve should definitely not be too drastic, however you also probably do not want a flat blade either because it will make it very hard for you to raise the puck when you try to clear it out of the zone.

Another thing you will want to consider that many inexperienced goalies overlook is the lie of the goalie stick. Many goalies do not know this, but you do not want to modify the height of the goalie stick or the paddle. These sticks are engineered to sit comfortably while you are in your goalie stance, and modifying the stick can cause you to have an improper goalie stance and/or pickup bad habits. That being said, it is very important that you choose a lie that works well for your particular height and your goalie stance. A sticks lie is basically the angle at which the stick is positioned when laying the sticks blade flat on the ground or ice. Compare different lies while in your stance and see what will work best for your situation.

There are quite a few goalie stick brands to choose from. Some of the most popular ones are Warrior goalie sticks, RBK goalie sticks and Sherwood goalie sticks. Each particular brand will have a few different patterns and styles to choose from based on some of the professional goaltenders that use their sticks. You don’t necessarily have to choose between these patterns because if you don’t mind paying some extra money you could always customize your sticks by creating your own pattern.
