For hockey goalies, buying goalie equipment can be quite difficult, especially if you are new to playing goaltender. Hockey goalie pants are often a piece of the goaltender’s gear that gets overlooked and not much though goes into what pants you would want as a goaltender. Some new goalies even make the mistake of purchasing regular hockey pants instead of hockey goaltender pants and suffice to say it usually does not take them long to realize that this was a mistake, and the bruises on these goalies legs are the proof.

Hockey goalie pants are different from regular hockey pants in a few ways, and these differences might be subtle, but they do make a huge difference in the amount of protection that goaltenders have from the puck. Goalie pants are almost always a few inches shorter than regular hockey breezers. The reason why goaltender pants are shorter is to allow for the goalie leg pads to sit comfortably and over lap the pant without getting in the way. Ice hockey goalie pants are also a bit wider than regular hockey pants due to the fact that there are quite a few more pads inside of goalie pants, especially on the inside of the legs. Goaltenders at high levels face some very hard shots that can do some damage if you are not wearing proper hockey goalie pants. The other difference between goalie and forward pants is that for goalies, their pants do not usually rise as high as player pants which allows for the hockey goalie chest protector to comfortably fit over the top of the pant without getting in the way.

It is important for any goaltender to realize that a quality pair of goalie pants will definitely prevent an abundance of injuries to your legs and thighs. I have seen to many goalies and goalie parents that simply want to save a bit of money by purchasing a cheap pair of goaltender pants, but usually at one point or another they eventually regret their decision to save money because of an unfortunate injury or deep bruise. If you are about to take up goalie as your permanent position in ice hockey, it is essential that you do some research on the goalie equipment that you will need to prevent injuries. Research the different brands of goalie equipment as well as the different models. Do not overlook hockey goaltender pants as being an important piece of goalie gear to prevent the occasional stinger slap shot to your legs.

If you are a goalie in ice hockey chances are that a big reason why you started playing goalie is because you are passionate about the hockey goalie gear. Most of the goalies that I know list one of the main reasons that they started playing goalie as being due to the goalie equipment that they wear. Hockey goalie gear is much more customizable than the gear that the other hockey players wear. Everything from goalie mask paint jobs to custom colored and sized goalie leg pads, goalies get to showcase a bit of their personality and taste in the equipment that they wear.

The downside to being a goalie in hockey is the fact that playing the position is expensive any way that you look at it. Obviously buying brand new hockey goaltender gear is going to be more expensive than purchasing used gear, but a lot of goalies simply refuse to buy used equipment because they like the idea of ordering custom hockey goalie gear. However, buying used goalie equipment also has its advantages. The great thing about used hockey equipment in general is that it saves you (or your parents if you are a youth hockey goalie) a substantial amount of money. Another great thing about used hockey goalie gear is the fact that it comes broken in. When I used to play goalie I used to absolutely dread breaking in a new, stiff pair of goalie leg pads or goalie catch glove.

Whether you are on a tight budget or not, you do have the option of playing goalie. Saving a lot of money when buying goalie gear is a possibility, you just need to know where to go to find discount goalie equipment. Shopping for hockey equipment online is a great way to save money because you can compare prices easily and these online hockey equipment websites can often offer a cheaper deal on gear because they often do not have the overhead and expenses of your traditional hockey pro shop. You might also consider buying your hockey goaltending gear during the summer because it is the off season in hockey and you can usually find closeout deals on last years models of all sorts of hockey equipment.

Buying goalie equipment is an exciting process that does not need to cost an arm and a leg. As with any product, you should probably spend a bit of time researching each piece of hockey or goalie equipment before you purchase it so that you do not make a mistake and spend more money than necessary.

If you are a hockey goalie, you know that ice hockey goalie equipment can be ridiculously expensive. Though goalie pads are expensive, they are obviously worth the money that you are required to spend on it because if you want to play goalie, you have to make sure that you are well protected. Cheap goalie equipment is okay if you play a lower level of hockey, but once you start playing bantam, midget or adult league hockey, slap shots enter the picture and if your opponents can shoot hard, you obviously will want to make sure that your hockey goalie pads are going to be effective at protecting your body and head.

Most goalie equipment manufacturers have fine tuned their pads to make sure that they are of a high quality, so you should not have to worry too much about your’s or your kid’s protection. As long as you aren’t buying equipment that is super old and beat up, and you purchase pads that fit you properly you should be able to take all of the slap shots you want without feeling very much. Sure occasionally you might catch a stinger to the palm of your glove hand, but for the most part you won’t feel anything. But when you start purchasing goalie gear that is too small, you start opening yourself up to exposed areas of your body that are susceptible to being bruised by the puck. Likewise, if you purchase ice hockey goalie equipment that is too large, it might start to get sloppy and slide out of position exposing your bare skin to slap shots.

If you do not know much about goalie equipment, visit your local hockey pro shop so that you can get some advice on how to purchase the gear that you know will fit you and protect you. Having the proper hockey goalie gear is essential because if you start taking heavy shots that hurt you, you will no longer be able to face shots without flinching, and as anybody who plays hockey knows…a flinching goalie is a bad goalie. Do the proper research and invest in the proper hockey goalie pads that you know are going to fit you and allow you to play without fear.
