Ice Hockey Gloves

If you have played hockey for a while, you understand the importance of quality ice hockey gloves. Though it may seem that all of the gloves that you can choose from are the same or very similar, there certainly are some pairs of hockey gloves that are better than others. Depending on the league and level that you play in, you will have to decide if you need more protection based on the style of play that takes place in your particular situation.

If you are particularly advanced in your hockey skills, you will want to make sure that you have gloves with enough padding to protect your hands and wrists against hooks and slashes. More advanced hockey players realize the importance of disrupting a players hands while they are handling the puck. Although it may be illegal to hook and slash, that definitely does not mean that it doesn’t happen, and the players are getting sneakier with each year. It is for this reason that a skilled hockey player who plays in a skilled league will want to make sure that they have ice hockey gloves that protect their wrists proficiently and have enough padding over the tops of their hands to protect against the dreaded slashes and hacks that often happen at this level of play.

If you are new to hockey, you are still going to want to make sure that you have a quality ice hockey glove for a few reasons. First, the players in your league are probably much more reckless and have a more difficult time controlling their sticks and bodies. So with that comes sticks swinging up by your arms and hands and you need to make sure that you have enough protection not to get hurt from opposing players wild sticks. Also, if you are new to skating, you will probably take a lot of falls while you are playing hockey at inopportune times and there could be times when you are on the ice and your hand might get stepped on. You want to be sure that you have plenty of protection especially over your wrists, because the last thing you want is to have your hockey gloves be too short and to get your wrist stepped on by some sharp hockey skates. I would also advise any hockey player to invest in some quality wrist guards or protective wrist bands to protect what your hockey gloves do not cover.

Whatever level you play, you probably do not want to purchase gloves, as well as ice hockey gear for that matter, that are lacking in padding. You also do not want to purchase gloves that are too short because you are just asking for trouble if you do not protect your hands with a quality ice hockey glove.
