Hockey Goalie Chest Protector
The hockey goalie chest protector is one of the most important pieces of equipment for a goaltender. Just like the hockey goalie mask, with a goalie chest protector, you probably do not want to buy anything but the best quality when it comes to protecting your arms and more importantly your chest. We have all heard the stories of freak accidents where hockey players get hit with the puck in the chest or baseball players get hit in the chest with a ball and it causing the heart to stop. It is for this very reason that you can not really think about saving money and going with a poor quality or a used and very broken down hockey goalie chest protector.
While I was playing goalie I had a very hard time switching to a new hockey goaltender chest protector because I dreaded the breaking in process with what can be one of the stiffest pieces of hockey goalie equipment. I had the same chest protector for the better of five years, and while I do not advise any goalies out there do the same thing that I did, I do suggest that if you have an ice hockey goalie chest protector that has become broken down and possible less protective, and you do not want to purchase a new one, that you go out and purchase some extra padding to add to your existing chest protector. When I was a kid, my dad would simply add more padding to the middle of my chest protector and to my shoulders and arms after I started getting bruises on my arms.
It is important not to overlook the importance of having sufficient protection for your chest. Not only do you want to prevent injury, but goaltenders who do not have the sufficient equipment to prevent injury often become conditioned to flinching and being scared of the puck due to continually catching a stinger. Any goalie who flinches is never going to be able to be an elite goaltender, so why not make sure that you have quality hockey goalie gear and especially quality hockey goalie chest protectors to lower the chance of being injured. Whether you protect yourself with a brand new chest protector that is of a high quality, or you just decide to beef up your existing chest protector with some more padding is up to you. Just make sure that you are keeping an eye on the quality of you goalie chest protector and making sure that it does not put you in harm’s way by being of a poor quality.
