For many hockey parents, buying hockey sticks for their children can be difficult. Not can buying hockey sticks be incredibly expensive, but it can also be very hard to know exactly what to look for in a hockey stick for a child.

Too many children beg their parents to buy them the very popular, however over priced, one piece composite junior hockey sticks. I cannot stress enough the fact that buying composite sticks for your child should be avoided if you are on a tight budget for your child’s hockey equipment. Your money would be much better spent on some quality ice hockey gear for your child that will keep your child protected and will prevent injury. A young hockey player who is just starting to play hockey will not be able to see any benefit in their shot or stick handling ability by using a composite junior hockey stick. You will literally see no difference in your child’s hockey playing ability by spending more than a hundred dollars on junior hockey sticks that are of the composite variety.

Once your child has been playing hockey for several years and has built up his or her strength, then and only then will you want to consider spending extra money on their ice hockey sticks. Composite hockey sticks can be beneficial to hockey players, but only after they have developed proper shooting and puck handling technique with a wooden youth hockey stick.

Just like with buying any youth ice hockey equipment for your child, it is not all that difficult to know what exactly you should buy if you do a bit of research online prior to stepping foot into your local hockey shop or visiting your favorite hockey equipment website. If your child is very new to hockey, do yourself a favor and make sure that you save your hard earned money by getting them wooden junior hockey sticks. Ice hockey does not have to be as expensive as many people would like you to believe. Yes, hockey can cost quite a bit of money if you do not go about purchasing your youth hockey equipment the right way, but if you are wise with your money and you understand where, when and what to buy in terms of hockey equipment and hockey sticks, you will see that you can afford to let your children play hockey on a budget while making sure that they are properly protected.

For youth hockey players and their parents, the equipment that they wear is incredibly important for their safety as well as for their peace of mind. Obviously parents worry when their children start to play check ice hockey because with the allowed contact within the sport of ice hockey comes the increased probability of injury. One thing however, that many people probably do not realize is that many youth hockey players have a fear in the back of their head of getting injured. It is natural for thoughts of injury to enter your mind because a lot can happen out there. However, the best way to keep your child safe and to keep them from being scared of playing hockey is to make sure that they have the proper youth ice hockey equipment to prevent them from being injured in a variety of ways.

Hockey does get a bit of a bad reputation due to the fact that so many injuries do happen, but everyone individually takes a new approach to the way that they themselves play, everyone will be a lot safer. Too many youth hockey players have quit hockey too early in their career because they could not deal with the stress of potentially getting injured. Though the youth ice hockey equipment that they wear is important for their safety, there are definitely some other ways to decrease the amount of injuries that happen in hockey as a whole.

Too many youth hockey players play a stupid game where they do not respect their opponents. You see this in youth hockey all the way up to the professional ranks. Respect for your opponent in ice hockey is the key to preventing injuries, but so is knowing what is going on around you at all times. You as a hockey player are also responsible for keeping yourself out of potentially dangerous situations. Too many youth hockey players who are wearing the proper youth hockey equipment make the mistake of turning their back to their opponent at an unsafe distance from the boards and in turn they receive unnecessary injuries that are often serious and life changing.

Purchasing quality youth ice hockey gear is important for keeping your child safe while playing hockey, but it is also very important that you teach your child that they need to be smart hockey players to really decrease their potential for getting hurt. Also, always promote the respect for opponents to your youth hockey player because if all hockey players have a respect for the health and well being of their opponents there will be a dramatic decrease in injuries to hockey players of all levels.

For a lot of hockey parents, the investment in their children’s safety while they are playing hockey is something that they take very seriously. While hockey can be a dangerous sport that keeps most hockey moms and dads on the edge of their seats hoping that their child comes out of their hockey game unscathed, if you know what equipment to buy for your child and you know that they are wearing their youth hockey pads properly, you can effectively decrease your child’s chances of getting injured while playing ice hockey.

Of course you want to make sure that their is enough padding in each of your youth hockey player’s pieces of equipment, but beyond that you really want to stress the importance of wearing the proper size and adjusting the youth hockey pads to fit them properly. If you make sure that they know the right way to wear their hockey gear (I know it sounds obvious but I can’t tell you how many youth hockey players I see wearing their youth ice hockey pads improperly), you will be able to spend less time worrying about their safety and more time cheering them on during their intense game of hockey. Always promote safety first when it comes to your child playing youth hockey because that way your child will likely not be as reckless and will keep himself or herself out of harms way while also keeping teammates and opposing players out of harms way which is very important too.

Not only are the youth hockey pads that your child wears important to their safety, but so is their knowledge and respect for the game of ice hockey. If your child knows what to look for on the ice and areas and situations to avoid, that child will not only grow up to be a safe hockey player, but also a more successful hockey player because of the vision that they have developed on the ice. It is extremely important to also teach your children to respect opposing players and never look to injure anyone. Yes, hockey is a contact sport, and injuries do happen. However, if your child does not respect the game and opponents the game of ice hockey loses all credibility.

Teach your youth hockey players the importance of wearing the proper youth hockey pads as well as the importance of being a smart hockey player. If you do this not only will their chances of getting injured while playing hockey decrease, but so will their chances of injuring someone else, which will altogether make ice hockey a safer game to play.

For youth hockey players parents, buying their child’s ice hockey equipment can be very difficult, especially if those parents have never had any experience with hockey before. It can be very hard to know what sizes to get in each particular piece of equipment, it is also tough to know how much you should be spending as well as what brand and model of youth hockey gear you should buy for your child. Luckily for parents in this day in age, as opposed to parents in past generations, they have the internet to rely on to do research on youth hockey gear.

The best thing that an inexperienced hockey parent can do before purchasing youth hockey equipment is to go online and do a little bit of research about each and every piece of hockey equipment that is necessary to protect their child. It is important to know that not all ice hockey gear is created equal, and many pieces of hockey equipment made for youth hockey players are simply not as good as others. Once your child starts playing check hockey it is very important that you get them the proper youth hockey gear to keep them safe while playing full contact ice hockey. There are many websites online that provide quality reviews from customers like yourself, allowing you to get a feel for what youth ice hockey gear is going to be good for your child.

Another good thing about the advancements in technology and the invention of the internet is the fact that you can find many hockey equipment websites that offer good prices on quality youth hockey gear. It is important to note, however, that if you do not know what size your child is in each particular piece of hockey gear, you definitely want to buy your gear at a traditional hockey shop so that they can actually try the gear on. This will allow you to make sure that your child has the youth ice hockey equipment that fits them properly which in turn will keep them as protected as they need to be while playing hockey. If you do have a bit of experience buying hockey gear for your child, you certainly can go to one of the many hockey equipment websites to buy your hockey gear. Buying hockey equipment online is a great way to save money and increase your selection of youth hockey gear that you have to choose from.

If you have a child that plays ice hockey, you know that buying kids hockey skates can be a difficult and frustrating process. Obviously ice hockey equipment is expensive, and with a growing child you have to purchase ice hockey gear much more frequently than you would probably like. The prices of hockey skates for kids have been going up each year as hockey equipment manufacturers perfect the art of making quality skates. Luckily, there are a few things that you can do in order to save money when purchasing kids ice hockey skates.

Probably the most obvious way to save money when buying childrens hockey skates is to buy used. Of course you know that kids grow each year, and with that comes the necessity to buy skates sooner than you would need for an adult. Many children insist that their parents buy them the latest and greatest model of brand new skates, but when they out grow those skates, they end up having to buy a new pair and usually decide to sell their old skates. Luckily for you, their are an abundance of used kids hockey skates at your local hockey pro shop and on auction websites such as Ebay. Another benefit that comes with buying used childrens ice hockey skates is the fact that they come already broken in for your child so that they do not have to be uncomfortable for the dreaded break in process.

There is another way you can really save money on kids ice hockey skates which is relatively new, but I foresee it catching on like wildfire eventually. The hockey pro shop that I used to work at in Minnesota actually has a skate leasing option. Basically leasing kids hockey skates means that you pay a fraction of what you would pay for new skates in order to basically rent the skates for a year or two. Sometimes these leased skates will be brand new and sometimes they are slightly used. After your lease is up, you have the option to either turn your leased skates in and upgrade to a bigger size if your child grew, or if they are not too small you can either extend the lease or buy the kids hockey skates out right.

With hockey getting more and more expensive each year, you have to get pretty creative in order to get your child the ice hockey equipment that they need and not spend an arm and a leg. Luckily with hockey skates being so expensive, some hockey pro shops are realizing that they need to offer some affordable solutions to allow hockey parents to afford to buy the skates that their children need in order to play the sport that they love.

When it comes to being a hockey parent you can definitely expect to spend a fair amount of money on your son or daughter’s hockey equipment. One of the big mistakes I see hockey parents making is when they buy their child the latest and greatest hockey stick. With the advancement of composite hockey sticks, they have become incredibly popular, and for good reason, they definitely can help certain hockey players to shoot better. Notice that I did not say that they will help all hockey players shoot better.

If you are brand new to hockey and just learning how to shoot you definitely do not need a composite hockey stick. Why spend almost two hundred dollars on a composite or pro stock hockey stick when you cannot get the full capabilities out of the stick because you don’t yet have the skills necessary to use it right. The same goes for youth hockey players. A child simply can not utilize a composite stick for the benefits that they offer because they simply do not have the strength needed to use the stick effectively. You might as well purchase your child wooden youth hockey sticks until they have developed enough strength and skill to be able to make using a composite youth hockey stick worthwhile.

Most children playing hockey see all of the fancy equipment that the professionals are using and they think that they need the same thing in order to be good. But with today’s economy, saving money on the youth ice hockey sticks that your child needs in order to play hockey will help you to afford more important things such as your child’s protective ice hockey equipment. Keep in mind that your child should focus on their basic hockey skills using a wooden youth hockey stick before graduating to the ultra expensive composite sticks. The fact of the matter is that all of the professional hockey players you see today started using wooden sticks or a primitive version of the composite youth hockey sticks that you see today such as aluminum hockey sticks. Do yourself and your child a favor and skip spending extra money on fancy hockey gear that the pros use, and buy some affordable youth hockey sticks that will help them to learn the basics before making the jump to the composite youth ice hockey stick. Try to prevent having your child get hung up on the hockey equipment that they use and help them to focus on having fun and developing their skills first and foremost.

If you are a hockey parent you have probably experienced the feeling of worry that comes with your child playing a dangerous sport such as hockey. This is not to say that your child is not safe while playing ice hockey. But with the nature of the sport being full contact and being played at a fast pace, there are always going to be injuries to hockey players of all ages. That being said, there are some things that you can do to make sure that you decrease the percentage of injuries that your child gets throughout his or her hockey playing days. However, one thing you can do really stands out above all, and that is to make sure that your youth hockey players wear quality youth hockey helmets.

The helmet that your child wears could be essential to their safety and their future to live a normal healthy life. And even though hockey is an expensive sport, the youth hockey helmet is definitely one piece of ice hockey equipment that I would not mind paying a hefty price for. When buying youth hockey helmets, you really want to make sure that the helmet has plenty of padding in it, the thicker the padding the more well protected your child’s head will be. Another thing to look for in children’s hockey helmets are that they fit your child’s head well. You never want to buy a helmet that is too big with hopes that your child will have room to grow into a helmet that is just a little bit too loose now. That is a huge mistake and you could potentially put your child in danger just to save a few dollars and avoid having to buy a new helmet next year which definitely is not smart.

Do some hockey helmet research online and you will quickly find that there are some very good helmets available and there are also some helmets being sold that simply do not provide the right amount of protection to keep your child safe and to give you piece of mind while they play the physical sport of hockey. Wearing the cage tight to the face and keeping their youth hockey helmet chin strap tight to their chin can also help reduce your child’s risk of a head injury. A person can only sustain a certain amount of concussions and that number is usually pretty low for most people, so keeping your child out of harm’s way early on in their hockey playing career will allow for them to enjoy playing the sport that they love for many years to come. Stressing safety early on in a youth hockey player’s life, will teach your child to respect the sport of hockey which will help them to keep themselves safe and the teammates that they play safe.

With how kids grow from year to year, it can be down right frustrating having to buy brand new hockey equipment year in and year out. While most pieces of hockey equipment you would never want to purchase a little big allowing your child room to grow, which could prevent you from having to buy again in a year, hockey pants are the exception to that rule.

With youth hockey pants, it is actually not that bad of an idea to buy a size bigger than what would fit your child properly. Obviously you would not want to go too big which might hinder your child’s ability to skate effectively, one size up on youth hockey pants is not too drastic that your child would have difficulty skating well. Most other pieces of hockey equipment you would not want to buy with the though that your child will have room to grow, for example hockey skates that are a size too big would cause blisters, and hockey gloves that are too big might leave your child susceptible to serious injury to his or her hands or wrists from having their gloves fall off frequently.

Youth ice hockey pants are different because one or two extra inches in length of your child’s ice hockey pants could only protect your child that much more. If you are like most hockey parents, you can never have enough protection for your child while he or she is playing hockey. If you are shopping for children’s hockey pants, just keep in mind that you do not want to have to buy a new pair of youth hockey breezers next year, then let your child try on some different pairs of pants and see what they are comfortable in. More often than not, you will see that your child actually won’t mind having a little bit bigger hockey pants than they are used to, because as most hockey players young and old alike know, there is nothing worse looking than hockey pants that are too small. Bigger is much better when it comes to youth hockey pants.

When your are ready to go shopping for your child’s next pair of hockey pants, just make sure that they have plenty of protection first and foremost. Than any aesthetic features such as size, design or even colors should come second in terms of priorities in the youth hockey pant.

Are you looking to purchase some youth hockey gloves for your child? If so, there are a few things that you should know before you spend your hard earned money on this piece of hockey equipment. We all know that hockey is an expensive sport and the equipment that is required to play hockey is much of the expense that gets associated with hockey. Many parents of hockey players, are new to the sport of hockey and have never purchased any hockey gear, and so it is for this reason I have decided to write this article on what to look for in youth ice hockey gloves.

Assuming that your child is between the ages of six and twelve, and also assuming that they are new to hockey, the first thing to consider when purchasing youth hockey gloves is that you do not need to spend extra money on new hockey gloves, when you can easily find perfectly suitable and protective used youth hockey gloves. Many children’s parents always need to buy the latest and greatest piece of hockey equipment, and while this may not be the wisest decision by them, it is to your benefit, because this means that when they buy the newest youth hockey glove, they are going to want to sell or trade in their old pair which usually is not more than one or two years old, which is still relatively new in terms of hockey gloves as long as the palm of the glove is still in good shape.

The other thing you are going to want to look for when purchasing children’s ice hockey gloves is that your children’s hands are being protected sufficiently. This does not necessarily mean that the padding in the glove is super thick, because that is not really what matters most. Sure, you are going to want to have decent padding over the tops of your child’s hands, fingers and thumbs, but many parents over look the importance of having proper wrist protection. Many of the youth hockey gloves today are cut much shorter than they had been in the past, and this can be incredibly dangerous. Make sure that when you are buying gloves that they extend up past the wrist. I also would suggest purchasing wrist protectors which are available at most hockey pro shops. Too many hockey players, young and old alike have had gruesome injuries to their wrists which have important arteries and ligaments that need to be properly protected to prevent serious injuries.

While there are some other features that you or your child might prefer in junior hockey gloves, these are the two important things that I think new hockey parents need to know before spending their money on their children’s youth hockey equipment.

If you have a child who is interested in playing ice hockey, the chances are that you are going to need to purchase some youth hockey skates. Many hockey parents do not have much experience with hockey or purchasing ice hockey equipment, thus they might need a few tips to help them through the process.

Purchasing youth ice hockey skates is different than purchasing skates for adults because chances are if your child is growing they are going to need new skates every one to two years. I have even heard of cases where a new pair of skates did not last a growing child a whole season. Many parents are tempted to try and purchase skates a size or two larger than their child’s foot size to allow them to grow into their youth hockey skate, but this is not a good idea. Purchasing skates that are too large almost always results in blisters and a painful experience for your child. Make sure that you purchase youth hockey skates that fit your child well at the time they are trying them on.

If you are worried about the price of skates and not wanting to spend a lot of money on new hockey skates every year, you should really consider purchasing used youth hockey skates for your child. There are many kids in the same situation where they go through skates very quickly and because of this the result is that there are usually a lot of used skates that are still in great shape. Another option is that a few hockey shops offer a leasing program on youth hockey skates where you can pay a certain amount to lease the skates for a season and if they still fit at the end of the season you can easily extend your lease. However, if the skates no longer fit your child, you can renew your lease and upgrade to a larger sized skate without worrying about spending an arm and a leg.

Though purchasing children’s hockey skates for your child can seem intimidating and unnecessarily expensive, you definitely have options to make things easier on your budget and your child’s feet.
