For many hockey parents, buying hockey sticks for their children can be difficult. Not can buying hockey sticks be incredibly expensive, but it can also be very hard to know exactly what to look for in a hockey stick for a child.

Too many children beg their parents to buy them the very popular, however over priced, one piece composite junior hockey sticks. I cannot stress enough the fact that buying composite sticks for your child should be avoided if you are on a tight budget for your child’s hockey equipment. Your money would be much better spent on some quality ice hockey gear for your child that will keep your child protected and will prevent injury. A young hockey player who is just starting to play hockey will not be able to see any benefit in their shot or stick handling ability by using a composite junior hockey stick. You will literally see no difference in your child’s hockey playing ability by spending more than a hundred dollars on junior hockey sticks that are of the composite variety.

Once your child has been playing hockey for several years and has built up his or her strength, then and only then will you want to consider spending extra money on their ice hockey sticks. Composite hockey sticks can be beneficial to hockey players, but only after they have developed proper shooting and puck handling technique with a wooden youth hockey stick.

Just like with buying any youth ice hockey equipment for your child, it is not all that difficult to know what exactly you should buy if you do a bit of research online prior to stepping foot into your local hockey shop or visiting your favorite hockey equipment website. If your child is very new to hockey, do yourself a favor and make sure that you save your hard earned money by getting them wooden junior hockey sticks. Ice hockey does not have to be as expensive as many people would like you to believe. Yes, hockey can cost quite a bit of money if you do not go about purchasing your youth hockey equipment the right way, but if you are wise with your money and you understand where, when and what to buy in terms of hockey equipment and hockey sticks, you will see that you can afford to let your children play hockey on a budget while making sure that they are properly protected.

One piece hockey sticks are all the rage these days. Many ice hockey equipment manufacturers are getting in on the action of selling composite hockey sticks, and though Easton pretty much revolutionized the ice hockey sticks that are used by the majority of hockey players today, other companies such as RBK are catching up to Easton and giving them more competition in the hockey stick market than they have ever had before.

RBK hockey sticks are used by some of the biggest super stars in professional ice hockey. Sidney Crosby of the Pittsburgh Penguins is probably the most famous National Hockey League player that uses RBK pro stock hockey sticks. If you ask any of the professional hockey players using one piece composite ice hockey sticks if they would ever go back to using wood or even two piece composite hockey sticks, they are likely to tell you that it would be ridiculous for them to downgrade their hockey sticks which would in turn make their shot less effective during game play.

If you have never tried RBK ice hockey sticks and you have some extra money, you should definitely consider buying one for a few reasons. I have used many different brands of one piece composite hockey sticks, but the RBK hockey sticks that I have used have seemed to be a bit more durable than some of the other brands which will remain nameless. Also, the RBK one piece stick has many different flexes and curves to choose from, just like with any other composite hockey stick brand. If you are used to a certain curve and/or flex in a different stick brand, the chances are that you will be able to find something to your liking with RBK. I also prefer the feel of RBK sticks over the rest of the composite stick brands.

Whatever you prefer in terms of ice hockey sticks is up to you, and it can really be quite difficult to find the perfect stick for your particular style of play. Once you do find the brand of stick and the curve/flex that gives you the best shot, you should try and make sure that you buy that particular stick every time so that you can have that consistent feel. I have found that I definitely prefer the RBK ice hockey stick, have you found what you prefer? If you have not yet found yours, I would recommend that you give RBK a try as soon as possible.

Although hockey sticks have evolved drastically after the invention of composite ice hockey sticks, some hockey traditionalists still use wood hockey sticks and they would argue that the wooden hockey sticks offer a better feel for the puck than does the composite hockey sticks. If you think about it, just a decade ago most hockey players in amateur as well as professional hockey used the wood hockey stick over any other option available at the time. Today however, there are very few professional hockey players that still use a wood ice hockey stick. One such player is Paul Stastny of the Colorado Avalanche, he is a phenomenal hockey player with a great scoring touch and stick handling ability, and I would guess that if you asked him why he still uses wood hockey sticks, he would tell you that it is because he prefers how the puck feels on a wood stick as opposed to the one piece composite sticks that 99% of professionals use today.

Though some players do still prefer the wooden hockey stick, it is pretty tough to argue that the composite hockey stick offers up much more powerful shots and quicker releases. Evidence of this is the fact that scoring is up a big over the last few years in the professional ranks. Many professionals using the composite stick would also argue that they prefer the feel of the puck on their stick as opposed to the wood stick. Just like with anything, your choice for hockey stick amounts to what you like in a stick and what you are used to.

Although professionals have an unlimited amount of composite hockey sticks at their disposal, this is definitely not the case for amateurs. These composite sticks are incredibly expensive which forces many amateurs, who cannot afford to pay upwards of two hundred dollars per stick, to use wood hockey sticks to simply save money. I am guessing that most wood hockey stick manufacturers target market are the amateur players who can’t quite afford to pay for the incredibly expensive one piece composite hockey sticks. The fact of the matter is that wood hockey sticks are perfectly good hockey sticks that more people might want to consider using. Unless you are a highly skilled hockey player with a good shot, you probably will not notice much benefit from using a composite stick over a wood stick because you simply do not have the skill necessary to make that composite stick work effectively for you. Choose a wood ice hockey stick in order to save money and learn how to shoot well before investing a lot of money into the composite stick.

When it comes to being a hockey parent you can definitely expect to spend a fair amount of money on your son or daughter’s hockey equipment. One of the big mistakes I see hockey parents making is when they buy their child the latest and greatest hockey stick. With the advancement of composite hockey sticks, they have become incredibly popular, and for good reason, they definitely can help certain hockey players to shoot better. Notice that I did not say that they will help all hockey players shoot better.

If you are brand new to hockey and just learning how to shoot you definitely do not need a composite hockey stick. Why spend almost two hundred dollars on a composite or pro stock hockey stick when you cannot get the full capabilities out of the stick because you don’t yet have the skills necessary to use it right. The same goes for youth hockey players. A child simply can not utilize a composite stick for the benefits that they offer because they simply do not have the strength needed to use the stick effectively. You might as well purchase your child wooden youth hockey sticks until they have developed enough strength and skill to be able to make using a composite youth hockey stick worthwhile.

Most children playing hockey see all of the fancy equipment that the professionals are using and they think that they need the same thing in order to be good. But with today’s economy, saving money on the youth ice hockey sticks that your child needs in order to play hockey will help you to afford more important things such as your child’s protective ice hockey equipment. Keep in mind that your child should focus on their basic hockey skills using a wooden youth hockey stick before graduating to the ultra expensive composite sticks. The fact of the matter is that all of the professional hockey players you see today started using wooden sticks or a primitive version of the composite youth hockey sticks that you see today such as aluminum hockey sticks. Do yourself and your child a favor and skip spending extra money on fancy hockey gear that the pros use, and buy some affordable youth hockey sticks that will help them to learn the basics before making the jump to the composite youth ice hockey stick. Try to prevent having your child get hung up on the hockey equipment that they use and help them to focus on having fun and developing their skills first and foremost.

Hockey players can be incredibly picky about the hockey sticks that they use and finding the perfect hockey stick can be something that takes quite a bit of time. Though ice hockey sticks are quite expensive, if you can afford it buying custom hockey sticks is a great way to assure that you get consistency in each and every stick that you use.

There are several benefits to buying custom ice hockey sticks. One of these benefits is that even though you would be spending more money up front to buy one or two dozen hockey sticks, in the long run you really end up saving more money provided you continue playing hockey throughout the life span of your bulk order of custom hockey sticks. With all of the composite hockey stick rage these days the price of sticks has more or less skyrocketed to an almost unaffordable price. Hockey players who can afford to order these sticks in bulk are the lucky few. But if you actually prefer wood hockey sticks over composite sticks you could actually buy a few dozen hockey sticks for a decent price.

Another benefit to ordering custom hockey sticks is that you can pick your own curve, stiffness and lie. This is very appealing to hockey players who cannot seem to find the right stick at their local hockey pro shop or online. Ordering your own custom sticks is very similar to using your own pro stock hockey sticks. The only downside to ordering custom sticks is that you have to order them in bulk, and if you ever run out of them, and you can’t afford to buy more custom sticks, well then you end up struggling to get used to a different stick which can take time and can be frustrating when you are so used to your custom ice hockey sticks.

Obviously you have to have some disposable income in order to buy custom sticks. If you are thinking of ordering a batch, make sure that you know exactly what stick you want because you do not want to make a mistake and have twelve perfectly good sticks that you just cannot get used to. Do some research, try out several different types of sticks, and make notes about what you like and do not like about each stick, that way you increase the chances of ordering customized hockey sticks that you know you will like and be able to use for a long time to come.

Buying discount hockey sticks can be difficult. The fact that so many people rely on the new style of one or two piece composite hockey stick has created an overwhelming amount of these sticks and though they probably aren’t all that expensive to manufacture, they are incredibly expensive. Composite ice hockey sticks can cost more than two hundred dollars, which is really insane when you consider the fact that each stick has an unpredictable amount of time for which it can be used. For some ice hockey players, they refuse to buy these composite sticks unless they can get them as discount hockey sticks.

Composite hockey sticks are big business for ice hockey equipment brands and they make a lot of money each year. Occasionally however, there are some online hockey websites or even hockey pro shops that off discounted hockey sticks. You might have to spend a little bit of time and effort trying to find hockey stick sales, but they are out there from time to time. Sometimes the best time to find discount hockey sticks is during the off season or summer, a lot of times the amount of people buying hockey equipment drops drastically during the off season. Some pro shops just want to get some inventory out of the door and will offer up hefty discounts on even the most expensive sticks.

Another way to save some money on ice hockey sticks is that if you need a new pair of sticks and you want to buy the top tier skate for some skates, often times the company that sells the ice hockey skates will give a way a free hockey stick with the purchase of a pair of skates. Obviously, you will want to make sure that you really do want to spend a lot of money on the most expensive skate available, but if that suits your situation and budget you can really save some money on a hockey stick.

Composite hockey sticks, however are not the only option for hockey players. If you are on a tight budget, or if you newer to hockey, you should just purchase a wood hockey stick. They are much less expensive, but they also are not a bad option for hockey players. After all, only about twenty years ago most hockey players used wood sticks. The fancy composite hockey sticks are definitely not necessary to be a good hockey player, and if you want discount hockey sticks, you might just consider buying a wood stick.

Mission/ITECH hockey is now officially part of Bauer hockey equipment. Although Mission was becoming more and more popular in the ice hockey equipment world, now it appears as though Mission is strictly a Roller hockey brand, while Bauer is designated as the ice hockey equipment brand. Mission hockey sticks are now Bauer hockey sticks which are used for both ice hockey and roller hockey. The Mission hockey stick was being used by several National Hockey League players, and I am not quite sure if Bauer has made a variety of hockey sticks that are equal to what the Mission hockey sticks were before Bauer took over.

Many hockey players who used Mission hockey sticks had become very accustomed to them and as most of us hockey players know that we can be very finicky when it comes to our ice hockey sticks. Although, I would think that Bauer will accommodate for the hockey players who preferred Mission hockey sticks by making ice hockey sticks that are close to what Mission offered to their customers, but I am not sure if that is going to be the case. Bauer does manufacture some very high quality hockey sticks which are definitely comparable with the best composite hockey sticks available, so I am sure they are not too worried about their hockey stick sales because they have a lot to offer in terms of ice hockey gear.

For the most part ice hockey players will not have any issues with Mission hockey sticks being acquired by Bauer, but a lot of Roller hockey player have become loyal to Mission and they really prefer Mission ice hockey sticks simply because Mission has been known for its roller hockey equipment more so than for their ice hockey equipment. If however, you absolutely can’t use any hockey stick other than Mission, you shouldn’t have a difficult time acquiring them right now because there are still many hockey shops and online hockey stores that still carry them until they run out. So for the immediate future you should be able to find Mission hockey sticks, but sometime down the road you will want to find a replacement for you Mission stick. There are plenty of composite hockey sticks being made by other hockey equipment manufacturers that would make for a good replacement for Mission hockey sticks. You might consider doing some online research to see what type of stick will be the most similar to the Mission hockey stick that you have become so used to.

With the advancement of technology and engineering, many hockey equipment brands have entered the composite hockey sticks market. Although there are a few brands out there that make junky composite sticks, and a lot of these once piece sticks break too easily at times, composite ice hockey sticks have completely revolutionized how hockey players shoot the puck. The effects are the most obvious at higher levels of hockey, and the composite hockey stick is definitely not worth the money or necessary for young children, but most skilled hockey players who have tried the one piece composite hockey sticks refuse to go back to a wood stick.

Easton Synergy pretty much revolutionized the composite hockey stick between five and ten years ago when they engineered the first ever one piece composite hockey stick. Composite shafts were available before that, but it wasn’t until the one piece composite was introduced that hockey stick brands realized that a lower kick point (where the shaft meets the blade) allowed for a harder shot. Composite sticks also are much more customizable than say a wood stick or those old school aluminum hockey sticks that everyone was using before the composite was introduced. Not only do you get a consistent curve with each stick that you purchase, but you also get a consistent flex and stiffness. So basically the composite hockey sticks of today are allowing players to find the perfect stick for them and get that identical stick each and every time the get a new one. With wood sticks it was always difficult to get the exact same feeling stick each time, so you each time you were to use a new stick you had to spend a few shifts just getting used to that particular ice hockey stick.

Now that goaltenders have gotten so good in recent years, it is a good thing that composite hockey sticks came onto the scene. If players were still just using wood and aluminum hockey sticks, I imagine that goal scoring in the National Hockey League would be way down, which would make hockey much less popular to watch. One thing I should mention though, is the fact that there are a few special players that are using wood hockey sticks in the NHL and they are able to have success with them. Paul Stastny of the Colorado Avalanche is well known for his scoring touch, and he uses a wood stick to this day, but I am going to go out on a limb and say that if Stastny did use a composite hockey stick he would probably have a few more goals than he has today.

Most hockey players do not realize that the sticks that professional players use are highly customized to each particular players liking. The blade is the most obvious customization that you think of when you hear about pro stock hockey sticks, but there is much more to the sticks that the pros use and how they have customized their sticks to match their preference that they have gotten used to over the years.

As was mentioned before, the blade of the pro stock hockey stick is going to be specific to each player in the league. Though two players might have a similar curve, there is likely going to be at least some sort of difference in the two players blade. All hockey players are usually pretty picky about the blades that they like to use, but for professionals who get unlimited sticks they are on a whole different level with their pickiness.

Another thing that many professional hockey players like to have customized in their pro stock hockey sticks is the flex. Usually the flex of the stick applies to a composite shaft rather than a wooden stick because with wood it will be a bit more difficult to have a consistent flex amongst many wood sticks because wood just isn’t as customizable as the composite materials seen in todays sticks. There is a wide variety in stick flexes for different types of players and with the way that players today are shooting with such force, the flex has much to do with that.

Some professional hockey players are even a bit finicky about the lie of their stick. While the lie isn’t probably as big of a deal as the curve of the blade and the flex of the stick, it still can have an impact on the way you handle the puck. Usually however, once you find a lie you like, thats the lie that you stick with for the long haul.

If you are curious about the difference between pro stock hockey sticks and regular stock, you might want to search for places where you can purchase pro stock sticks online. Also, if you have a local professional team near you, you might consider going to their arena because a lot of times the souvenir shops will have some pro stock hockey sticks for sale for relatively decent prices.

These days cheap hockey sticks can be extremely hard to come by. The fact that ice hockey sticks have evolved into finely tuned pieces of equipment, has had a direct impact on the price of the new, technologically advanced sticks. The majority of sticks available at hockey shops are either one piece composite or two piece composite sticks and blades. The material used in these new sticks have caused hockey stick prices to sky rocket in the last 10 years or so. Now it is not uncommon to see stick prices in the two hundred dollar range, and though these new sticks can help you to have a better shot, they certainly aren’t necessary.

Wood hockey sticks are always an alternative to the composite stick and they are always a cheaper hockey stick. If you cannot afford to drop a lot of cash on an expensive stick, you might as well pay around thirty to forty dollars for a wood hockey stick. Cheap hockey sticks are actually very easy to come by if you are willing to compromise and go with what had worked for decades for all hockey players, and still continues to work for a small percentage of professional hockey players like Paul Stastny of the Colorado Avalanche. The professional hockey players that choose to use a wood stick over a composite actually prefer the feel that they have when they use a wood stick.

Though there are some positives to using the wood cheap hockey sticks, there are also some disadvantages. The main disadvantage of the wood variety of hockey stick is that they last only a fraction as long as the composite sticks last. The bottom of the blade on a wood stick can get soft if you do not re-tape your stick enough, this softness makes shooting the puck much more difficult. Now, this is not to say that the composite hockey stick always lasts longer than a wood stick because they do tend to break quickly on occasion too, but usually they will outlast the wood hockey stick.

Depending on what your financial situation is and how serious you are about hockey, you might really want to consider buying a cheap hockey stick made of wood. They certainly aren’t going to be a waste of money and you never know, you might actually learn to prefer a wood stick which would save you plenty of money down the road.
