Shopping for hockey equipment for your child can be difficult. With how kids grow from year to year, it can be down right frustrating having to buy brand new hockey equipment year in and year out. While most pieces of hockey equipment you would never want to purchase a little big allowing your child room to grow, which could prevent you from having to buy again in a year, hockey pants are the exception to that rule.

With youth hockey pants, it is actually not that bad of an idea to buy a size bigger than what would fit your child properly. Obviously you would not want to go too big which might hinder your child’s ability to skate effectively, one size up on youth hockey pants is not too drastic that your child would have difficulty skating well. Most other pieces of hockey equipment you would not want to buy with the though that your child will have room to grow, for example hockey skates that are a size too big would cause blisters, and hockey gloves that are too big might leave your child susceptible to serious injury to his or her hands or wrists from having their gloves fall off frequently.

Youth ice hockey pants are different because one or two extra inches in length of your child’s ice hockey pants could only protect your child that much more. If you are like most hockey parents, you can never have enough protection for your child while he or she is playing hockey. If you are shopping for children’s hockey pants, just keep in mind that you do not want to have to buy a new pair of youth hockey breezers next year, then let your child try on some different pairs of pants and see what they are comfortable in. More often than not, you will see that your child actually won’t mind having a little bit bigger hockey pants than they are used to, because as most hockey players young and old alike know, there is nothing worse looking than hockey pants that are too small. Bigger is much better when it comes to youth hockey pants.

When your are ready to go shopping for your child’s next pair of hockey pants, just make sure that they have plenty of protection first and foremost. Than any aesthetic features such as size, design or even colors should come second in terms of priorities in the youth hockey pant.

Back about ten to fifteen years ago, Tackla hockey pants were all the rage. Whenever I see a hockey player wearing these pants it reminds me of the good old days when a lot of players first choice in ice hockey pants were Tacklas. For some reason, Tackla as a hockey equipment brand never really caught on as well as a lot of the brands that are still around today, but the look of the Tackla hockey pants were unique and stylish with many pairs sporting the stripe down the side and three Tackla logos in the middle of the stripe.

You might not know it, but Tackla ice hockey pants are actually worn by many professional hockey players in the National Hockey League, they are also worn in international play by many national teams and I actually think that Tacklas are worn by players in professional hockey leagues overseas in Europe. Most of the different brands of hockey pants are not all that different from one another, and the design and make of hockey breezers, as they are often called, are usually almost identical in the amount and placement of padding used to provide protection. Tackla hockey breezers aren’t much different from your typical hockey breezer, aside from the fact that Tackla hockey pants are so recognizable due to their aesthetics.

These days, Tackla hockey pants are somewhat difficult to come by here in the United States. Many hockey pro shops do not carry a stock of Tackla, but that does not mean that they are hard to get if you really want them. Searching online for hockey pants made by Tackla will return many results of the brand of hockey pants that many of us know and love. While today the Tackla brand of ice hockey pant might seem a bit retro and old school, that does not mean that they will not experience a renaissance and become one of the most popular looking hockey pants like they once were.

If you play hockey, you obviously know the importance of ice hockey pants. The equipment that hockey players wear are essential for all hockey players protection. Ice hockey equipment has been refined over the years and the manufacturers that engineer the equipment have perfected the ice hockey pant to allow skaters to skate comfortably and be sufficiently protected.

In many amateur and recreational hockey leagues a lot of players decide that they do not want to wear traditional hockey pants and they just wear sweat pants over their hockey shin pads. This is not a good idea at all for reasons which I would think are obvious to all hockey players. Taking a slap shot to the thigh or groin area without having padded hockey pants to protect you can hurt very bad, and trust me when I say that the resulting bruises that come after being victimized by the slap shot are not pretty at all.

Another reason why you do not want to bypass the wearing of ice hockey pants is because there are many occasions when you will end up falling on your tailbone, and let me tell you falling on your tailbone is incredibly painful. It does not matter how much experience you have or how good of an ice skater or hockey player you are, inevitably you will fall on your tailbone. Though hockey pants might not always completely prevent pain when you fall on your tailbone, it could mean the difference between slightly bruising your tailbone, as opposed to not wearing ice hockey pants and breaking your tailbone.

Make sure that when you are buying new or used hockey pants that they have a good amount of padding in the behind as well as plenty of padding on the front of the thighs and groin area. You do not want buy a poorly made or badly used hockey pant for obvious reasons, so do some research at your local hockey shop or even online to get a feel for what type of hockey pants might be ideal for you.

Purchasing the right pair of hockey pants might not seem like a big deal because on the surface it appears that all hockey pants are created very similarly. And though some people might not really care too much about the pair of pants they wear, other people are more like myself and are very particular in all of their ice hockey equipment including hockey pants.

Like hockey gloves a new pair of pants can be difficult to get used to and can feel incredibly stiff. For me, there is a fine line between too little padding and too much padding in my hockey breezers. I definitely like to have plenty of padding on the front of my legs because I play defense and for some reason I get hit with a lot of shots in my thighs. I also like to have a fair amount of padding on my tailbone because if you have ever fallen hard on your tailbone you know that it can be painful and I am like most people in that I like to avoid pain as much as possible.

Other than the amount of padding, I also have to make sure that my ice hockey pants are long enough. In my opinion some of the goofiest looking hockey players are the ones that do not know that their pants are too small. Take your time when you are choosing hockey pants sizing and try them on before you buy just to make sure that you don’t make a mistake and buy the wrong size of hockey pants.

Finally, the last feature that I look for in a pair of pants for hockey is the zipper on the inside of the legs, many nhl hockey pants offer the zipper. This feature is underrated in my opinion because it is just an extra feature which can come in handy when trying to put your pants on over your skates. Also, many players actually leave the inside zippers on their hockey pant unzipped to give them more room and a looser fit which is less restrictive.

No matter what your preference is in a pair of hockey pants, you really just want to make sure that you do a bit of research on what you can afford and what will be the best pant that you can get at that price. Also, go online and check out some honest reviews of different hockey equipment brands. And finally, you need to make sure that you go to a hockey shop to try the pants on. Too many people order their gear online now, and that is okay if you know what your looking for, but if you are new to hockey you should get the advice of someone who knows.
