Hockey equipment can be difficult to lug around if you do not have the right hockey equipment bag. Hockey players have a lot of equipment and if you have a simple hockey bag without any pockets or compartments chances are your ice hockey gear just gets stuffed in the bag and you are lucky if you can get the bag zipped up entirely without ripping the zipper or tearing the bag.

Though hockey equipment bags are not all that complex, there are definitely a few features that you would want to make sure that carrying your heavy bag of equipment is as easy and as comfortable as can be. I always look for separate ice hockey skates pockets on the side of the bag. This is essential because if you just throw your skates into the bag with everything else, you could risk losing your edge or getting a nick in your skate blade if it touches another piece of gear that is not good for the blade of your skates. Also, you do not want to have your skate blade ripping or tearing any of your other pieces of equipment or your jersey or hockey socks.

Another thing that I look for in an ice hockey equipment bag is that it is large. I never want to buy a bag that barely holds my equipment at the time of my purchase, because I know that I am going to end up storing more equipment or hockey accessories as time goes by…it always happens. I often look for the biggest hockey equipment bags that are available because you simply get more for your money and it is more convenient to have more room in your bag. Often times you might have a hard time finding large ice hockey equipment bags, so the trick is to look in the goalie section at your local hockey pro shop, and buy yourself a goalie bag. There is literally no difference between a goalie bag and a player bag other than the fact that they are bigger because goalies wear more equipment.

Obviously shopping for hockey equipment bags is not all that difficult when you compare it to shopping for the rest of your ice hockey equipment, but buying the wrong hockey bag that does not fit all of your equipment can be very frustrating. Don’t just buy any hockey bag, take your time to find the right bag for your particular hockey gear so that you do not regret your purchase sometime in the near future.

You might not know it, but you can tell a lot about a hockey player by the hockey equipment bag that they carry their hockey gear in. It might sound elitist or judgmental, but for some reason the stereotypes that are attached to certain hockey equipment bags are usually pretty accurate.

If you have played ice hockey for quite a few years, you probably already know that hockey is a sport full of tradition and machismo. There are many hockey players that are all about “old time hockey”, and these players do not take kindly to the evolution of some of the equipment and accessories associated with hockey. One of these accessories that have evolved in arguably negative ways are ice hockey equipment bags. You see, ten to fifteen years ago, there was only really one style of hockey bags which was basically a very large duffle bag with plenty of pockets to store all of your ice hockey equipment.

Today however, there is a new style of bag that is becoming very popular amongst new hockey players. The hockey bags with wheels are being used by more hockey players each year, youth and adults alike. These wheeled hockey equipment bags have become popular with new hockey players, but to the hockey playing veteran who has played for a long time, the bag with wheels represents a new breed of wimpy hockey players. Granted, this is just an opinion, but what you should know if you are thinking of purchasing hockey equipment bags with wheels is that there are many old school hockey players with the same opinion on bags with wheels that I have.

If you are thinking of buying a new hockey bag, I would definitely suggest that you purchase the traditional hockey equipment bag, the one without wheels. Just because it is acceptable to wheel a suitcase around the airport, does not mean it is entirely accepted to wheel a hockey bag around the ice rink. You can spot a novice hockey player a mile away when they wheel their hockey equipment into the hockey locker room.
