If you have never played goaltender in hockey before, then you might have a hard time relating to the goaltender’s love for hockey goalie gloves. One of the absolute best feelings you get as a goalie is when you make that highlight reel glove save that is dramatic and flashy at the same time. A lot of goalies would probably tell you that their favorite save to make is a glove save. Another great thing about the glove save is that while it looks and feels great, it is a relatively easy and untechnical save to make when you compare it to the other saves that goaltenders make. If you are looking to buy a new hockey goalie glove you should do some research online, but I would also have to say that you probably do not want to buy your glove online because you should definitely try it on prior to purchasing so that you know that it fits and that it feels good.

Although the price of youth goalie gloves is probably not going to be the most expensive thing you buy for your young goalie, it also is not the least expensive either. Purchasing youth goalie gloves can be difficult however, because you have to make sure that the gloves that your child wear are protective enough to prevent injury, but you also do not want them to be wearing junior goalie gloves that are too big. When I used to coach young goaltenders, I would see so many young goalies wearing a youth catcher and youth blocker that were simply too big. While this might not seem like a big deal, it can make playing goalie much more difficult and can slow down there development. Buying a new goalie glove is often one of the most fun pieces of goaltender gear to purchase. I always liked buying goalie gloves and goalie leg pads the most because there are so many different brands and looks to choose from. These days it is much easier to buy custom goalie gear as well. To break in the hockey goalie catch glove you just really have to work on closing and opening in hundreds if not thousands of times. Another great thing to do is to put a softball inside of the web of your catcher and then tie a hockey lace around the whole glove very tightly for several hours. When I played goalie I really wanted to have my catch glove wrap around my goalie stick well so that I could handle and shoot the puck better, so what I would do is take my glove and wrap it around my stick and then tape or tie a lace around the glove very tight for a while. If you use this tactic for breaking in your glove, you should be ware that though your hockey goalie glove will close easily, it might take some more effort to open the glove as wide as you need it to be. After some time though, your glove should be broken in nicely allowing you to open, close and hold your stick efficiently.

Hockey goalie gloves are fun to buy, but they can cause some stress when switching from gloves that you were previously comfortable with. But if you just come up with a good system to break in your ice hockey goalie gloves, you will start to feel more comfortable with getting a new pair of goalie gloves. If however, you do not want to deal with breaking in a new hockey goalie catcher and blocker, you might consider buying a used pair of hockey goalie gloves. Buying used hockey goalie equipment can not only be good because you can skip the breaking in process, but you can also often save a lot of money in the process.

When purchasing ice hockey goalie gloves, you will have to really decide what is most important to you…do you want the flashy look of the brand new goalie gloves, or are you looking for a more broken in goalie glove? If you are like most goalies you probably want to get the latest and greatest RBK or Vaughn goalie gloves, after all…chances are that a big reason that you decided to play goalie is because of the equipment.

While I understand the desire to purchase some brand new hockey goalie gloves, I myself prefer to purchase my goalie equipment used. The reason I prefer to purchase used goalie gloves is simple…used goaltender gloves are less expensive, and they are usually already broken in. As long as the blocker had a decent palm on it, and as long as the catcher would close easily and both provided enough padding to prevent getting bruises on my hands, then I would consider purchasing those gloves. I never really cared too much about having matching gear either, which was great because that made it so I had a large selection of equipment to choose from.

Late in my goalie days, I would purchase pro return goalie equipment. This gear was great because it was used by professional goaltenders, but it was very affordable. I always knew that pro return equipment usually wasn’t going to be too “beat up” and the reason why is because professionals go through equipment very fast because they can’t have equipment that looks too beat up because after all…they are professionals. If you enjoy goalie equipment as much as I do, I would definitely have to suggest that you find yourself a supplier that carries pro return gear.

The bottom line is that if you are not all that worried about matching your equipment with your uniforms and your goalie mask, and if you do not care about having the shiny pads with all of the logos fully intact, you can really get some quality used goalie gloves that will help you to save money and feel comfortable all while keeping you well protected from even the hardest of shots.
