Many hockey goalies have a love for the equipment that they wear while playing one of the most difficult positions in all of sports. I also know many goalies, including myself, who started playing goalie because they like the way that hockey goalie equipment looks. Perhaps one of the most popular pieces of equipment for goaltenders to buy is the hockey goalie glove. While the goalie mask and the leg pads are also very popular pieces of equipment, the reason why some goalies list their favorite piece of goalie gear as the goalie glove is because they love to make that big glove save made famous by goalies such as Edmonton Oiler great, Grant Fuhr.

If you have never played goaltender in hockey before, then you might have a hard time relating to the goaltender’s love for hockey goalie gloves. One of the absolute best feelings you get as a goalie is when you make that highlight reel glove save that is dramatic and flashy at the same time. A lot of goalies would probably tell you that their favorite save to make is a glove save. So it is no surprise that the piece of hockey goalie equipment used to make such a great save is the hockey goalie catcher.

Another great thing about the glove save is that while it looks and feels great, it is a relatively easy and untechnical save to make when you compare it to the other saves that goaltenders make. If you know how to catch a baseball with a mitt, then you should know how to catch a puck with a hockey goalie glove. If you take a shot to the catcher of even the newest goalie he has a decent chance of being able to catch it and get that feeling of highway robbery of your opponent on the ice.

Hockey goalie gloves are also great because you can customize them with your favorite colors and patterns as well as personalize it with your name stitched somewhere on the cuff of the glove. Also, breaking in a hockey goalie catch glove can be difficult, but once you get it broken in you will have a hard time giving up that glove when it is time to buy a new one because it has that feeling of a very comfortable shoe (or something of that nature).

If you are looking to buy a new hockey goalie glove you should do some research online, but I would also have to say that you probably do not want to buy your glove online because you should definitely try it on prior to purchasing so that you know that it fits and that it feels good.

Playing goaltender in hockey is incomparable to any other position in sports. To the untrained eye the hockey goaltender does not do much more than simply stand in front of the net and occasionally react to a shot and hope that the puck hits him or her. But for anyone who has suited up in goalie gear just one time, they know that there is much more to it than that, and goalie does take a lot of skill and athleticism to be good at the position.

While being a good goaltender requires you to have a certain amount of skill, another aspect to being a successful goalie is the equipment that you use. The hockey goalie equipment that you wear while playing goalie is essential to your success as well as your protection. Take the hockey goalie catcher for example, this goalie glove needs to be capable of doing several things.

Obviously you want your goalie catcher to help you catch pucks, so you will want a glove that has a deep web and that is broken in well enough to close easily which ultimately allows the goaltender to control rebounds and catch the puck (provided the goaltender wearing the glove has the ability to catch the puck).

Another thing that you will want in a goalie catcher is enough padding in the palm and wrist areas as well as the top of the hand to protect against heavy shots and slashes on your goalie catch glove.

Finally, with the need for goalies to be able to control and pass the puck well has created the need for goaltenders to be able to wrap their goaltender catcher around their goalie stick well enough to be able to get enough strength behind your passes to be an effective puck moving goalie. Making it so that your goalie glove wraps well around your stick for handling the puck is up to each goaltender. You have to do some work to get it to wrap well around the stick, but if you do this you also might lose a little of the coverage that you have in your glove when trying to catch the puck. It is up to you how drastically you want to form your glove for holding the stick, but for me I think that there is a happy medium between breaking in your glove for your stick and breaking it in for catching the puck. You just have to find the appropriate balance for yourself.

Using a good goalie catcher is essential for your success as a goalie and if you have a poor catch glove it can really hinder your game and rebound control as a goalie. You can do some research on hockey equipment websites to see some reviews on what the most popular hockey goalie gloves are and why they are so popular.

If you have a child who plays goalie in hockey, you probably dread when you have to spend even more money on goalie equipment. Obviously you want your child to be protected from injury and you do not want them to be in harms way by purchasing them sub par hockey goalie equipment. However, goalie equipment is very expensive (even more expensive than regular hockey equipment), and each year that you need to upgrade to a new piece of goaltender gear it gets more expensive.

Although the price of youth goalie gloves is probably not going to be the most expensive thing you buy for your young goalie, it also is not the least expensive either. Purchasing youth goalie gloves can be difficult however, because you have to make sure that the gloves that your child wear are protective enough to prevent injury, but you also do not want them to be wearing junior goalie gloves that are too big. When I used to coach young goaltenders, I would see so many young goalies wearing a youth catcher and youth blocker that were simply too big. While this might not seem like a big deal, it can make playing goalie much more difficult and can slow down there development. Children’s goalie gloves that are too big make it hard for that young goalie to move their hands and arms, not to mention it can be difficult for them to keep those gloves on their hands, which could potentially lead to unnecessary injuries to your child’s hands or wrists.

If you are going to be buying some new youth goalie gloves for your child, I would definitely suggest that you visit your local pro shop to purchase their gloves if you do not know exactly what size that they wear. You should allow your goaltender to try on a few different gloves in order to see what will fit the best and what they are the most comfortable with. Though you might be tempted to just purchase your youth goaltending equipment online, this would likely be a mistake if you do not have much knowledge of goalie equipment prior to making your purchase. Buying any ice hockey equipment online requires you to have a considerable amount of knowledge about hockey gear and sizes. If you are an inexperience hockey parent to a youth goaltender, do yourself a favor when you go to buy your next youth goalie glove, visit your local hockey pro shop and get your child fitted by somebody who knows how the glove should fit.

Although I do not play goalie anymore, I still definitely enjoy and appreciate hockey goalie equipment. When I watch National Hockey League games I always look to see what type of gear each goaltender is wearing, and I have come to realize that if I were still playing goalie, I would definitely wear RBK goalie gear. In particular I can really appreciate the RBK Premier 3 goalie glove. This is the same glove that Roberto Luongo of the Vancouver Canucks wear.

Buying a new goalie glove is often one of the most fun pieces of goaltender gear to purchase. I always liked buying goalie gloves and goalie leg pads the most because there are so many different brands and looks to choose from. These days it is much easier to buy custom goalie gear as well. With the way that the internet has taken off, many hockey and goalie equipment manufacturers have incredible user friendly websites that allow you to customize nearly any piece of equipment that you would like. If for example you would like to customize the colors and get your name stitched on you ice hockey goalie glove, you should not have a hard time finding a website that offers some sort of customization interface which would allow you to personalize your goalie gloves from top to bottom.

Breaking in a goalie glove is a different story however. I could not stand having to break in a stiff hockey goalie catcher. Usually the reason why I had such distain for breaking in a new catch glove is that I was so used to, and comfortable with my old well broken in goalie glove. If you are like me and you do not enjoy trying to break in your catcher, there is really only one way to speed up the break in process. If you simply take your goaltender glove home and continuously throw a puck, baseball or softball in your glove while opening it and closing it each time, you will soon find that your glove closes much easier and you will be much more comfortable wearing your new goalie catch glove in games and practice.

If you are in search of a new goalie glove, you might want to take not of what other goaltenders at your local rink are wearing and see what they think of their glove. You could ask them to try it on and that might help you to determine what your next goalie glove should be. You could also spend a little time searching hockey equipment websites and seeing reviews on the different gloves that are available.

If you are a hockey goaltender you probably know the frustration of breaking in a brand new pair of hockey goalie gloves. Although the goalie blocker is not that difficult to actually break in, it can be a little bit weird adjusting to a new blocker when you are used to your old one. The hockey goalie catcher is a different story though. Back about ten years ago goalie catch gloves were very stiff and difficult to close when they were brand new, and although today the catcher is a bit easier to break in, it can still be very difficult to get used to and feel comfortable with.

To break in the hockey goalie catch glove you just really have to work on closing and opening in hundreds if not thousands of times. Another great thing to do is to put a softball inside of the web of your catcher and then tie a hockey lace around the whole glove very tightly for several hours. When I played goalie I really wanted to have my catch glove wrap around my goalie stick well so that I could handle and shoot the puck better, so what I would do is take my glove and wrap it around my stick and then tape or tie a lace around the glove very tight for a while. If you use this tactic for breaking in your glove, you should be ware that though your hockey goalie glove will close easily, it might take some more effort to open the glove as wide as you need it to be. After some time though, your glove should be broken in nicely allowing you to open, close and hold your stick efficiently.

Hockey goalie gloves are fun to buy, but they can cause some stress when switching from gloves that you were previously comfortable with. But if you just come up with a good system to break in your ice hockey goalie gloves, you will start to feel more comfortable with getting a new pair of goalie gloves. If however, you do not want to deal with breaking in a new hockey goalie catcher and blocker, you might consider buying a used pair of hockey goalie gloves. Buying used hockey goalie equipment can not only be good because you can skip the breaking in process, but you can also often save a lot of money in the process.
